Library lamp

Materials

• Old books with red covers

• Lamp with metal stem

• Drill with bit to fit diameter of the stem

• 45ml (13⁄4fl oz) paint: 2 pots red, 1 pot vermilion

• Roller

• Paintbrushes

• Metal eyelet

• MDF for making the plinth, 0.5mm

Instructions

Make the plinth according to the size of the largest book, which will form the base of the lamp. This can also be a simple box filled with wood or pebbles.

The base must be heavy enough to hold the lamp steady.

Mix the three pots of paint. Apply two coats to the plinth. Drill the plinth at the top in the centre.

Make the pile of books. Drill through the books one by one. Paint some of the covers bright red.

Dismantle the lamp, place the books onto the stem and locate the position on the plinth.

Reassemble the lamp, placing the metal eyelet in the hole of the last book. Attach the lamp holder and the shade.
